CocoWool Coir Peat Free Compost with Sheep Wool Pellets
This is a superior type of cocopeat.
For one, it is made in India. Now, I will confess that I used to think it was all the same thing whichever country it came from but I’ve learned something recently. In Sri Lanka, coconuts are grown for the coconut water, i.e. the nuts are harvested unripe/green, while the fibre is not fully developed. In India they are grown for copra (the flesh to press into coconut oil), i.e. the nuts are fully matured, as are the fibres. So this makes a better compost to start with. Then with this batch, organic sheep wool pellets are added – around 15%.
In general, cocopeat is considered a growing medium that’s only as good as the additional fertiliser you mix in with it. This cocopeat benefits from the additional nutrients that come from the longer growing season PLUS the wool pellets which add nutrients and water retention properties. Not only that, but it’s supporting Himalayan sheep farmers. Both the cocopeat and the wool are certified organic AND you’re helping the coconut farmers + marginal sheep farmers. All that and it’s a great product too.
